Look at the pretty snake Daddy!

Last week as we were getting ready to head out, and this little fella made his appearance in the back yard. I almost stepped on it with my flip flops on. I wonder if he could have gotten ahold of my big ole toe? I quickly rendered him..................lifeless and brought the kids out for a quick lesson on "pretty" snakes and how dangerous they are. We then took it out to MeMe and Pop's house and coiled it up by their back door to see if we could scare one of them. It didn't work but everyone couldn't believe how big it was. It was about 24" long. Keep an eye out for snakes, we've heard lots of stories about how they are out and about.

Excuses, Excuses............

So I realize it's been like 71 days since my last post but you know what...."You'll get over it." I had intentions of posting the finished treehouse project, or the next deer lease update, or maybe even another supermodel post, but life happens. I really think that all my "followers" will be ok with it though (yes, all 4 of you).

Now when I say Life happens...I mean just that. Nothing spectacular or life altering or tramatic (well not to most people) has happened. My priorities are still the same, it's just that my time available for these priorities has changed. It used to be easy to be jobless and try to take care of things (only to have to beg and plead for help from the wife) around the house and still have time to hang with the kiddos, the wife, the dog, and to blog. Heck, it used to be easy to do all that stuff with a regular day job. And along came B.I.N.G.O. I took on a part time job (consequences of my poor judgement - which is another blog unsuitable for public viewing). Bingo has been a great way for me to make a few extra bucks. Luckily I have an amazing boss who lets me take off early to get to my part time gig. The only thing bad about working this other job is that there are some days that I see the kids for a few minutes in the morning and by the time I get home they are sound asleep in bed so the best I can do is peek in on them, give them a peck on the cheek, tell them sweet dreams and I love them and then laugh hysterically. I mean seriously, how does a 3 year old move around so much while sleeping to end up with her head at the foot of the bed while laying on no less than 5 books, and how does a 7 year old drool so much. I mean I can uderstand a quarter size spot, but a volleyball size?? Come on kid. Quite comical, and yes, more blog post material.

Luckily the wife still waits up on me. We chat for a few minutes while I have my midnight snack, then go to sleep (unless it's kinky night), and then start the whole process all over again the next day.

Anyway, i just wanted to post of few pics. If these pics don't make you smile then you need therapy.

Check back later for a post of who knows what. Maybe the treehouse or the garden or the deer lease or the wifey or ?????

Cabo 2009

2009 marked our 11th trip to Cabo San Lucas. Our first trip was in 1993. Cabo San Lucas hasn't really changed much. The area around Cabo sure has grown though. Cabo has gone from about 30,000 people in the early 90's to around 180,000 people this year. There have been a few new resorts pop up here and there but for the most part "downtown" Cabo has remained the same. There is a small mall and some street construction going on but those are about the only things that have changed since our first trip.

This year we ventured to a small village called "Santiago" that we had only driven through before. We learned of a "cascadas" (waterfall) so we decided to visit it. It is a really neat little town with a great restaurant/hotel called "Palomar". The waterfall was really cool too. It is about 40 feet tall and surrounded by granite boulders and river bed. This is it's low flow time of year so it wasn't real big but it was nice. Yes, Cheney and I both jumped off the cliff. Cheney jumped right off without hesitation and loved it...........until he hit the water. The initial impact scared him a little but I think he'll be ready to go again next time we visit. haha.

It was a very relaxing trip and of course was not long enough but we are glad to be home. Here is just a sampling of the pictures I took this week. Enjoy.

Just hangin' out before dinner.

Our view for the week.

Cheney geared up and ready to ride.

Our sweet ride for the week........I guess I owe an apology to all you mini-van driving soccer mom's out there. It wasn't so bad to cruise this thing around all week.

Cheney standing on the "Tropic of Cancer" marker on Hwy 1 in Baja.

Entrance to a great little zoo in Santiago, BCS, Mexico. It's totally free that operates on private funding and donations only.

King of the jungle......or at least this zoo.

View of the waterfall from the trail we hiked down.

Another view of the waterfall or "cascada". It's at least 40' tall.

Cheney and I atop the boulder to the right of the waterfall.

Cheney went first..........great canonball form!

My turn..........starting my double front flip with a half pike twist, blah, blah, blah. I just sissy jumped in and went straight down.

Medano Beach next to the Cabo San Lucas Marina. Great restaurants and beach activities.

Typical touristy photo with "Lands End" behind them.

Chandler running away from the waves.......at one point she told me, "they just keep coming daddy!"

Kiddos striking a pose showing off their guns in front of the Sea of Cortez.

View of our resort from the "lookout" tower. Weather was beautiful.

Most beautiful 3 1/2 year old I've ever seen.

Remember what happens in Cabo stays in Cabo? They will love these printed in their Senior yearbooks. haha

Entrance to our resort. Beatiful at night AND during the day.

Thanks for viewing.

Chompin' at the Bit

My uncle, a friend of ours and I made a quick trip down to the lease on Wednesday to deliver the new blind and move some stuff around and fill up the feeders. After getting everything set up, I changed the camera cards and we drove around the ranch checking things out. Everything looked good but I do know we need MORE RAIN.

When we got back to the office, I checked the camera cards and came across these two shots (along with about 900 more). These two pics make me wish November 1 was closer. The first one is of a nice young buck. Don't worry, he'll survive this year. The second pic is of some that probably won't survive this year if Cheney has anything to do with it.

Our 3 Year Old Photog

Chandler is going to be our "challenge". She is just like her mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and probably on down the line when it comes to being, well, how do i put this nicely (these women read this blog)...OPINIONATED/STUBBORN (I think the pc term is "confident") haha. Yeah, I think that's how Lisa described her today. She is truly one of a kind and does things that just amaze us on a daily basis. Some things leave us scratching our heads wondering if they switched babies at the hospital and other things that lead us to pointing to each other saying, "WOW, she is DEFINITELY YOUR child".
She is definitely a gifted little girl who does things "for fun" and just 'cause. Today she grabbed moms camera and began to snap away. The camera was on a shelf that's about 5 foot off the ground so were not sure how she retrieved it. For all we know she convinced Lance (our Labrador retriever) to help her and boost her up there. He would have done it. He listens to her. Anyway, this isn't the first time she's been a random object papparazzi. She is often "caught" snapping away at things around the house like the cabinet door, toilet, fish tank, chair leg, dryer, carpet, floor, tv, etc., etc..
Here is just a sampling of her pics. She is also very fond of herself and will ALWAYS include a "self portrait" shot for us. We don't mind. She's beautiful.
Enjoy.

Phone Pics........

I hadn't updated my phone in quite some time so today at work while I had some down time I updated it and synced it with my laptop. Found some interesting pics on it. So I figured everyone would love to see what they are. Totally random, but fun.

Yes, I married a model who is super!

Last month one of Lisa's friends talked her into submitting a photo of herself to a boutique who was looking for models. She didn't think much of it, and just submitted a couple of snapshots of herself. Well, she got a call back that said, "Congrats Supermodel, get ready for the runway!"

I knew all along that she was beautiful/hot. I mean that's part of the reason I married her. Well, that and I thought she was loaded. I was wrong about the second part. haha.

Lately I've been looking through some pictures and came across this one. This is one of my favorite pics of my beautiful wife. Even after 12 years of marriage (this Sunday the 5th) and two great kids, she still has a rockin' body and takes excellent care of herself to make sure she always looks and feels like a million dollars. I appreciate that about her more than she knows.

By the way.............

Happy Anniversary Lisa. I love you.

Decisions, Decisions................

We have been dogless for 8 months now.................It's been a long 8 months.
We have missed having a dog.

Well we are officially becoming "dog people" again. We just don't know which dog it's going to be. Lisa found a great "rescue" organization in Austin that deals specifically with Labrador Retrievers. It is called Heart of Texas Labrador Rescue. You can visit their website at http://www.hotlabrescue.org/ We have been going through the "adoption" process and it is very intense. We were fortunate enough to make it this far. One of the directors told us that they turn down 60% of the applicants. I guess that means we aren't so crazy after all. We officially met 3 great dogs today. They were Cheerio, Madison, and Elle (the kids call her Ellie). Cheerio is an older yellow female (6 yrs old) and has the heart of a 2 year old. She is very "active" and loyal to her foster mom. Madison was a very laid back 2 year old. She wasn't too interested in us and we really didn't "click". We crossed her off the list pretty quick but believe that she has a great home waiting for her with someone. The last one we "officially" met was Elle. She is a beautiful yellow female. She too was very laid back but took to the kids right away (i don't think she had a choice as both kids used her as pillows and were playing tug of war with her ears).

We really had a hard time choosing which dog to "request" to join our family. I fell in love with Cheerio due to her Lab qualities, size, coloration, and activeness. The kids and Lisa fell for Elle (Ellie) right away. She really is a great dog and would make a great family member for us. We should find out tomorrow which dog will be joining us for a lifetime of memories.

But wait.........I've been talking about the three dogs we were "officially" introduced to. You see the directors of HOTLab were so impressed with Cheney and Chandler and their "obedience" (we threatened them on the way to the house) that they wanted us to "interact" with Lance and see how he acted around kids. If you visit their website you'll find out that Lance was used as a "bait" dog for a pitbull breeder and was thrown into the fighting ring. Well somehow Lance "escaped" from that hell and fell into the hands of this loving organization that spent lots of money and love bringing him to how he is now. He came in and I immediately thought that he would be a great dog for us too. He is one of the most handsome black labs I have ever seen. You would NEVER know of his history by the way he acts. He's a great dog.

Well we "officially" told them that Madison was NOT for us and that we would love to adopt "ELLE" (or ELLIE). If Ellie is not available, we told them our next choices would be Cheerio, then Lance. Yes, we put Lance on our short list.
We should find out tomorrow.

This is Lance.

This is Ellie.

This is Cheerio. Could you resist this face?

Treehouse?????? Kinda.

The REAL treehouse construction has been put on hold because the other "tree" house has been remodeled. Cheney and I shared a VERY SMALL deer blind down at the lease and we both complained about being cramped and not very comfortable. So I "found" this old crate that my company used for shipping stuff and remodeled it. The old deer blind was about 4 foot by 4 foot and all metal and very hot or cold. The "new" blind is 8 foot by 8 foot with wall to wall carpeting and shelving. I do think that Cheney and I will be comfortable in this one. Heck, we might even invite 2 or 3 friends to join us in it. haha
As you can see from the pictures, it has a custom paint job (courtesy of Cheney, Karson, and myself). There are still a few minor things to do on it to finish it, but it is coming along quite nicely.
